Massie, 75, of St. Paris, passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2003 in Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born in South Charleston on May 15, 1927, the son of the late Walter and Elva (Slagle) Massie. Mr. Massie was a 1946 graduate of Westville High School; was formerly employed by Robbins and Myers Company, Springfield; and retired from the International Truck and Engine Company, Springfield. He was a member of the St. Paris First Baptist Church, the U.A.W. Local No. 402, Springfield, and a senior member of the Pony Express Tractor Pulling Team. Raymond loved his family, was an avid fisherman and Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed going to tractor pulls. On May 12,1950, he married the former Margery A. Bishop who survives along with three sons, Daniel (Jeanie) Massie, Jeff (Nancy) Massie all of St. Paris, and Larry (Sue) Massie of North Hampton. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, Damon (Carrie) Massie, Shawn, Erin and Justin Massie all of St. Paris, Candy (Arthur) Shellabarger, Katy and Stacy Massie all of Springfield, Matt and Nathan Massie of North Hampton; four great-grandchildren, Allison Massie of St. Paris, Ben and Noah Shellabarger and Sam Massie all of Springfield; three brothers, Francis (Anna Jane) Massie, Roger (Sandy) Massie, and Jerry (Gloria) Massie all of St. Paris; five sisters, Marcella Mahan, Agnes Lemmon, Eleanora (Jim) Schneider, Rose (Clyde) Lee all of St. Paris, and Mary Lee of Marysville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eloise Putnam; and three brothers-in-law, Roger Mahan, John Lemmon and William Lee. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Richeson-Wickham and Atkins Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with the Rev. Dr. James Van Zile officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Damon, Shawn, Justin, Matt and Nathan Massie and Steve and Dean Bishop. Visitation for family and friends will be in the funeral home on Monday from 2- 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and also on Tuesday from noon until the time of services.
