Sunday, March 1, 2009 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana. He was born June 6, 1931 in Huland, KY, a son of Henry and Sarah (Brock) Maxwell. Lewis retired from Johnson Mfg. Co., served in the US. Army and the U.S. Marines during the Korean War Conflict and he enjoyed woodworking fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Pauline (Davis) Maxwell, whom he married July 27, 1979; 3 daughters Sarah (Joe) Carpenter of Marietta OH, Caroline (Jeff) Shimer of Lower Salem, OH, Glenda Adams (Randy Blake) of Marietta, OH; 2 sons Eugene (Robin) Maxwell of Sidney, Chris (Grace) Maxwell of Urbana; 6 step daughters, Brenda Anderson, of Urbana, Susan (Hobart "Hobe") Neiswander of London, Ann (Thurman) Arnette, Judy (Tom) Slater and Debbie (Dennis) Conn both of St. Paris, Kathy (Danny) Bailey of Sidney; 2 stepsons James Anderson of St. Paris, Billy Wayne Anderson of Vandalia and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Donna Gilbert, 2 grandchildren Sarah Gilbert, Maggie Maxwell; step son Jerry Anderson and a son-in-law Duane Carney. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday March 3, 2009 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana where funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 with Rev. J.B. Powers officiating. Burial will follow in Nettle Creek Cemetery.
