He was born May 8, 1917 in Barberton, Ohio to the late Orpha (Scott) and William C. McCartney. Don graduated from Chippewa Twp. High School in 1935, and from Ohio State University in 1941. He married Anna Gardner on May 30, 1941 and she preceded him in death on April 20, 1984. He worked for IBM Corp. from 1942 until he retired in 1975 as a Field Manager in the Dayton office. He married his wife of 17 years, Helen Lukity McCartney on May 7, 1988 and she survives in St. Paris. He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Kathleen A. (Donald) Kilgallon of Greenville, Ohio, and Joyce M. (Charles) Karnes of Mt. Orab, Ohio; three sons and daughters-in-law: Michael S. (Maggie) McCartney of Vero Beach, Florida, Dennis J. (Mary) McCartney of Beavercreek, Ohio and James I. (Judy) McCartney of Centerville, Ohio; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his step family: Norma (Jack) Sturgeon; Denny (Bev) Lukity; Stan (Jackie) Lukity; and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Anna Gardner McCartney; son, Thomas O. McCartney; infant daughter, Miriam; and sisters: Fern and Ellen McCartney and Doris Tozer. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saint Paris, Ohio with Father Gregory Konnerman officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Saint Paris. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 28 at the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., Saint Paris, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saint Paris, 231 Washington Ave, Urbana Ohio, 43978, or Tricare Hospice, 21 Hunter Pl., Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
