Preceding him in death are his parents, Nicholas Oliver McGuire and Ruth (Bodey) McGuire, and siblings John Nicholas McGuire and Donna Margaret Huffman. Jim was born in Urbana, Ohio, on July 11, 1933. He was a 1951 graduate of Salem High School, where he was proud of his participation in Future Farmers of America (FFA). He was the first Salem student to receive his State Degree. Jim married the love of his life,on November 7, 1954, in Middleburg, Ohio. He milked Holstein cattle for 35 years, then raised Simmental beef cattle. His love of working with youth and cattle extended into Boy Scouts, church youth advising and 4-H, where he was a 31-year advisor for the Concord Cloverleaf Cattle Club. In recent years, he has enjoyed helping his sons-in-law complete projects and farm work. Jim was an active and faithful member of Concord United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was especially excited to participate in the church’s bicentennial celebration this fall. Jim completed scheduling and maintenance for the Concord Community Center for 16 years. He was also a charter member of the Concord Cloverleaf Squares Club, travelling across the state and country to square dance with some of his dearest friends. During the Champaign County Fair, he could be found recruiting for the square dancing club when he wasn’t taking orders at the Cable United Methodist Church food tent. He was the official videographer at all family events. he is survived by his wife, his two daughters, six granddaughters, as well as many dear relatives and friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013, in VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. To celebrate Jim’s life, a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2013, in the Concord United Methodist Church with Pastor Wayne Engle officiating.
