McMaken, 95, of Springfield, formerly of Covington (since 1948), died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Villa Springfield. She was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Westville, Champaign County, to the late George W. and Della (Heaton) Zea. She was a graduate of Lena-Conover High School, Class of 1935 and worked at the Post Office Restaurant in Piqua, the Date Factory in Urbana, Aero Products in Vandalia, and at Covington Schools as a cafeteria worker and then supervisor. She was a member of Covington United Church of Christ, was a Girl Scout troop leader, was a member of The Spitfires, the Women's Auxiliary of the Covington Fire Department, a TWIG volunteer at Detmer Hospital, an avid reader and enjoyed many travels and wintering in Florida with her husband. Alice is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard Leroy McMaken in 2002; three brothers and their wives, Wendell and Charleda Zea, George and Ora Zea and John Zea; sister and her husband, Elizabeth and Carl Besenfelder; and brother-in-law, David McMaken. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington with Pastor Allen Marheine officiating. Burial to be held at the convenience of the family.
