PETTIBONE, Joan Morrison 88, of Springfield, Ohio died Wednesday, December 2, 
2004 in her residence at 2:10 p.m. She was born on January 8, 1916 in Tiffin, 
Ohio the daughter of Vaughn Raynor Morrison and Glenna Blanche Evans. She was 
also the step daughter of Robert C. Anthony of Springfield. She was a graduate 
of Springfield High School and Wittenberg College, class of 1940 and was a 
teacher in the Springfield Public School system for over 30 years. Following 
her retirement she would have former pupils phoning her or stopping her on the 
street to tell her of their accomplishments. In addition she taught at the 
Ridgewood School and was one of six founding faculty of the major Work, 
today's Gifted and Talented program for the entire Cleveland Public School 
system where she won many awards for distinguished teaching prior to her 
retirement in 1960. She was a life long democrat active in politics and could 
always be counted on in discussions on political life and current affairs and 
events. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Howard Pettibone; her 
parents; her step-father and her brother, Vaughn R. Morrison. She is survived 
by a son, John W. Pettibone of Gloucester, Massachusetts; a brother, Robert T. 
Morrison of Morristown, New Jersey and many nieces and nephews, including a 
distant cousin comedian, Jonathan Winters. At her request their will be no 
funeral. A memorial service at Wittenberg University's Weaver Chapel is being 
planned for spring 2005 and will be announced later. Following cremation her 
ashes will be buried in the Morrison family plot at Oakdale Cemetery in 
Urbana, Ohio, next to the grave of her great grandfather, John Morrison
