She was born in Champaign County on March 21, 1913, the daughter of the late Earl Leroy and Elizabeth (Elwell) Walters. Roberta was a 1931 graduate of Westerville High School, a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women, and a former employee of the Occidental Petroleum Company of Springfield. She wintered in Sebring, Fla. for the past 20 years where she was active in the Desota Home Park Association. Survivors include two daughters, Joann (Terry) O'Brien of Hotsprings Village, Ark. and Janet (Larry) Coleman of Sebring, Fla; five sons, James (Sharon) Pond of West Liberty, Richard (Dolly) Pond of St. Paris, Kenneth (Kathy) Pond of Medway, Roger (Connie) Pond of Goldendale, Wash., and Merlin (Dixie) Pond of Powell; 23 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three step-great¬grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Donna Jean Rutherford of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; and a nephew, Russell Walters of Silver Spring, Md. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pond was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Pond who she married on Oct. 15,1932 and who passed away March 13,1996; one brother, Francis Walters; three grandsons, Bradley Alan Pond, Jeffrey Scott Coleman, and Kevin Michael Coleman; and a granddaughter, Susan Arlene Pond. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the St. Paris United Methodist Church, corner of Church and Walnut streets with the Rev. Douglas Upton officiating. Burial will take place at Myrtle Tree Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as the pallbearers. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the church.
