Dayton Daily News on December 22, 2006 
PURK, Catherine L. 83, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 10:45 A.M. 
in her residence in Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. Purk was born in Dayton, on March 25, 
1923 daughter of the late William and Marie (Evans) Helfinstine. She was 
married to Marvin E. Purk (a native of Rosewood, Ohio) on July 3, 1944. She is 
survived by her husband; and son Michael (Janet) Purk; 4 grandchildren: Robert 
(Christina), Catherine, Andrew and Thomas (Emily); 8 great-grandchildren: 
Joshua, David, Alyssa, Steven, Corrine, Jacob, Catherine, and Elizabeth; and 
sisters: Bertha Brown and Betty Kelly; many nieces and nephews in Dayton and 
St. Paris, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Stephen Purk, 
sisters: Mary Slivinski, Stella Bame; and brothers: Eugene and William 
Helfinstine Jr. (both veterans of WWII). Catherine attended school in Dayton, 
worked at General Motors during WWII, where she met and later married Marvin 
Purk (retired Chief Executive Officer of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce). 
Catherine was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family. She and Mr. Purk 
have been members of Grace United Methodist Church, Dayton for many years. 
Mrs. Purk lived a wonderful Christ-filled life. Her motto was "it will all 
work out when He returns." Services will be held at Atkins-Shively Funeral 
Home in St. Paris, Ohio 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 23, 2006, with her 
grandson, Pastor Robert Purk officiating. Burial will follow in Rosedale 
Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday December 23, one hour 
prior to services
