Queen, 85, of Urbana and formerly of Sidney, passed away at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, in Heartland of Urbana. He was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Vinton County, a son of the late George Edward and Norma Faye (Hill) Queen. Mr. Queen is also survived by a daughter and son- in-law: one granddaughter, and two great-grandsons, In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Queen who passed away on March 4, 2002; six brothers, William, Elba, Marvin, Francis, Donald and Gerald Dean Queen; and five sisters, Jessie Moore, Doris Jewell, Gertie Brooks, Dorothy Townsend and Madelain Curley. Mr. Queen served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class from Nov. 17, 1943, to Jan. 9, 1946. He retired in 1994 from Sidney City Schools where he worked as a heating engineer He was formerly employed as a janitor for Sidney Holy Angels and Fairlawn School District. He was a member of the Amvets Post 39 at Lakeview and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Sidney. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with the Rev. Wayne Engle of the Concord United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 217 of Sidney.
