Russell, age 84, of Urbana passed away on March 29,2011 as the result of a car accident. Wilma was born on September 7,1926 in New Richland, Ohio, a daughter of the late William McKinley and Audrey Mae (Donnal) Ford. A daughter, Debra Russell of Riverview, Florida, a sister, Jane Ache of Gas City, Indiana, a brother, Joe (Jane) Ford of Rosewood, a brother-in-law, Philip A. (Juanita) Russell of Urbana and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ann (Larry) Miley of Springfield, several nieces and nephews and countless friends survive her. A half brother Donnal (Virginia) Stanley preceded her in death. Wilma was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church. She graduated from Rosewood High School in .1944. On September 7,1947 she married William Stayman Russell in Rosewood and he preceded her in death on July 28, 2005. Wilma was nationally known for her work with raising and showing cavies (guinea pigs.) She began raising cavies in the 1960s and became known as "The Cavy Lady." She and her husband were instrumental in starting the Mad River Cavy and Rabbit Breeders, helping to organize the cavy part of the club. She was also a member of the Springfield Rabbit and Cavy Club and was currently serving as an officer. Wilma has served as an officer for the National Cavy Club, the Ohio Cavy Club, the National Rex Rabbit Club, and the Ohio Rex Rabbit Club. Wilma loved all animals and she was especially fond of the Ohio Pilot Dog program and P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter in Urbana. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Atkins- Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris with Reverend Mark Hackworth of the Renewed Strength Church of Westville presiding. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery, N. St. Rt. 560, Urbana. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Wilma's memory to Pilot Dogs, 625 W. Town Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or to P.A.W.S Animal Shelter 1535 W. U.S. Highway 36, Urbana, Ohio 43078. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
