Ernest "Ernie" Schroeder, 100, of Springfield, died Wednesday, September 28, 
2011 in the Ohio Masonic Home, Springfield. He was born March 8, 1911 in 
Decatur, Indiana.
Ernie was a graduate of Decatur High School in Decatur, IN, and retired from 
the railroad. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Urbana, a lifetime 
member of Harmony Lodge #8 F&A.M., lifetime 32nd Degree member of Scottish 
Rite Valley of Dayton, and served in the National Guard during WWII. He 
enjoyed bowling, woodworking, gardening, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife Ruby (Workinger) Schroeder, whom he married on 
November 30, 1995, daughter, Clara Jane Bell of Austintown, OH, son, Larry 
Schroeder and his wife Sandra of Carmel, IN, stepson, Don Brittsan and his 
wife Eileen of Urbana, grandchildren, Kurt Schroeder, Karla Hill, Kyle 
Schroeder, Vera White, Vickie Kephart and Larry Bell, step grandchildren, 
Cindy DeKinder, Gladys Bell, Stanley Brittsan, Christina Harrison, Steve 
Brittsan and also several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 wives, brothers, Louis Schroeder 
and Steven Schroeder, and stepson, Christopher Brittsan.
The family will receive friends, 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 1, 
2011 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main Street, Urbana, where 
funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Aaron Samples 
officiating. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery.
