Funeral Home-abstract
Esther Leah Scott, 88, of St. Paris died on Monday, August 20, at 5:50 PM in 
Mercy McAuley Center. She had recently been a resident of Hearth & Home 
Assisted Living of Urbana.
She was born December 26, 1923, in Rosewood, Ohio, the daughter of Samuel 
Joseph and Laura Geuy Maurice, who preceded her in death.
Sisters Alice Isabelle Zerkle and Mildred Ruth Maurice and brother Marion 
Cecil Maurice preceded her in death.
She graduated from Rosewood High School in 1941 as the valedictorian of her 
class. She continued her education at the Community Hospital School of Nursing 
in Springfield, Ohio. She worked for several years as an LPN at the Champaign 
County Nursing Home and retired from her nursing duties at the Springview 
Developmental Center in Springfield, Ohio. 
She loved to cook and bake, having won over sixty awards for baked goods at 
the Champaign County Fair and the Ohio State Fair. She was a talented 
seamstress, and she knitted beautiful baby blankets and afghans. Her passions 
were her family and her love of reading.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the 
Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with 
Pastor Cheryl Siegenthaler presiding. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, 
St. Rt. 235 N, Conover, Ohio. A visitation for family and friends will be held 
on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
