SHAFFER, Helen Harriet 101, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord at the 
Ohio Masonic Home on Thursday, July 23, 2009 following a brief illness. She 
was born on September 14, 1907 in Urbana, Ohio the daughter of Samuel Pearl 
and Ilva Eurilla (Engle) Robison. She was a member of the Highlands United 
Church of Christ and Shrine Widows Club. Helen retired from Wittenberg 
University and had taught swimming to many children from Springfield and 
Urbana at the Springfield YWCA. She enjoyed spending time with her 
grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all. 
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Letitia Shaffer 
of Apex, North Carolina and Samuel H. and Beverly Shaffer of Springfield; a 
sister, Mary Hess of Urbana; six grandchildren, Dawn (Michael) Moore, Stephen 
Shaffer, Spencer (Patti) Shaffer, Samuel R. (Mandy) Shaffer, Michael Hunter 
Shaffer, and Wesley (Kristy) Shaffer; eight great grandchildren, Manda, 
Mystrey, Jessica, Samuel, Jackson, Emma, Hannah, and Anna; a great-great 
granddaughter, Lainie Mae; and a niece, Janet Bishop. She was preceded in 
death by her husband, E. Howard Shaffer in 1968; a brother, Frank H. Robison; 
and a sister, Anna Elizabeth Robison. A gathering of family and friends will 
be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Helen's 
funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with 
Rev. Dr. Gary Percesepe officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Urbana
