Funeral Home-abstract
SHAFFER, Richard William age 85, of Springfield passed on to be with the Lord 
in the early morning hours, on Friday, July 13, 2012 with his wife at his 
side. Born on Jan. 28, 1927 in St. Paris, Ohio, Richard was the elder son of 
the late Jeremiah William and Nellie Marie (Morgan) Shaffer. Richard is 
survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol Jane Knapp. Together they were married 
on October 4, 1947, and together they raised their three daughters. He was a 
loving grandfather of six grandchildren and seven precious great-
granddaughters. Mr. Shaffer, a graduate of Springfield High School, was 
formerly employed by Vectra, Inc. and Central Printing Company where he was a 
key innovator for advancements in the binding processes in the printing 
industry. He served in the United States Army as an aircraft engine technician 
during WWII and later as a military policeman in Germany, post WWII. 
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 
from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. 
Springfield St., St. Paris, OH. Immediately following visitation, funeral 
services will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Dr. James 
VanZile of the St. Paris First Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow in 
the Evergreen Cemetery, St. Paris, OH, with military honors by the Veterans
