She was born on October 9, 1935, in Milford Center, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry and Sylvia (McCarty) Underhill and was one of four children of which two have preceded her in death. Mrs. Shamblin attended Amphitheater High School in Tucson, Arizona, and was the former owner and operator of the M&M Restaurant in Christiansburg. Her hobbies included cooking, fishing, camping and going to flea markets. Survivors included four sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Earl and Pam Shamblin, Jr. of Christiansburg, Orvin and Marites Shamblin of Christiansburg, Sam and Monique Shamblin of Troy, and Mark Shamblin of Alaska; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Nick Strom of Greenwood, South Carolina; and one sister-in-law, Mary Underhill of Stoutsville, Ohio. In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Earl Shamblin, Sr., on September 1, 2012; two brothers, David Edwin Underhill and Harry Wayne Underhill; two nieces, Linda Diane Farnham, Sally Underhill; two nephews, John Clinton and Aaron James Sams; and one brother-in-law, John Harold Proctor. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, with her sister, Julia Strom, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Upper Honey Creek Cemetery, Christiansburg.
