Esther M. Smith, 78, of 34 N. Elm Tree Road, St. Paris, passed away at 1:40 
p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. She was 
born Jan. 3,1926, in Champaign County, the daughter of the late Wallace 
Benjamin and Sara Victoria (Blue) Clem.
Mrs. Smith retired in 1987 from Copeland Corp. in Sidney. She was a former 
member of the Pythian Sisters Jewel Temple No. 307 in St. Paris.
On Feb. 6,1940, Esther married Wilbur W. Smith. He survives along with one 
son, Richard (Donna) Smith of St. Paris; one daughter, Judith O'Harra of 
Urbana; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Urbana; six grandchildren, Brad 
(Desiree) Smith of Dayton, Brian Smith of Bellingham, Wash., Ronda England and 
Michael Lingrell, both of Bellfontaine, Scot (Karen) Lingrell of Lima and 
Damon (Sherry) Smith of Kingscreek; six great-grandchildren; and several 
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. 
Smith who passed away Feb. 8, 2003; one brother, Alonzo Clem; and two sisters, 
Alta Poling and Gladys Jones.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 12, in the Richeson-
Wickham and Atkins Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris with Pastor 
Anita James from Westville United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in St. Paris. Friends may call from 5-
8 p.m. today, Feb. 11, at the funeral home. Donations may be made in Esther's 
memory to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. Box 
182039 Dept. 013, Columbus, OH 43218-2039. Envelopes will be available the 
funeral home
