Snarr, 66, Fort Loramie-Swanders Road, formerly of Norfolk, Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at 6:34 p.m. at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He had been seriously ill for one month. He was born April 7, 1936, in Urbana, the son of John R. Snarr and Inez L. (Toomire) Snarr. He is survived by a son,two sisters, Two brothers preceded him in death. A graduate of Urbana High School, Mr. Snarr retired from the U.S. Navy June 1, 1985, completing a 30-year career in the service. He was a master chief petty officer at the time of his retirement. He served in the Vietnam War and earned numerous awards of merit during his career. These included the Eighth Good Conduct Award (1985), Battle EA Award (1983), Third Sea Service Ribbon (1981), Navy Commendation Medal (1978), Navy Achievement with Combat (1969), Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars and a National Defense Service Medal. Services are set for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie, with the Rev. Ned Michaels officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Concord Cemetery, Urbana.
