He was born May 10, 1920, in Springfield, the eldest son of J. Raymond and Inez Lorene (Toomire) Snarr. Charlie became a member of the Westville United Methodist Church in 1946 and was an active member of his church as long as his health permitted. He was a 54-year member of the Harmony Lodge #8 Free and Accepted Masons. He graduated with the class of 1938 from Westville High School. He retired in 1985 from the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company after 47 years of service as a department head. He had worked at several stores, including ones in Springfield, Urbana and Bellefontaine. While working for A&P, he was also a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and held the office of first vice president for several years and served as a delegate to the union's international convention several times. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in Iceland, England and France. He loved to travel and had a strong interest in his family's history and genealogy. Survivors include his wife of 55 years whom he married on Jan. 27, 1946; two children, son and daughter He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John R. Snarr Jr. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 17 in the LITTLETON AND RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, with a Masonic service at 4:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 18 at 2 p.m. at the Westville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank James officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.
