PARIS - Richard Dean "Hobie" Thackery, 76, of St. Paris, passed away at 9:47 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, in his residence. Hobie was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Champaign County, a son of the late Hobart and Anna (Davis) Thackery. He married Betty J. McAlexander on May 26, 1962, and she died Aug. 13, 1978. Hobie is survived by one daughter, Tammy (Tom) Thackery Wilson of Beavercreek; and two step-children, Monte (Jan) Geuy of Caledonia and Teresa (Paul) DuLaney of St. Paris; five grandchildren, Lauren and Jena Wilson of Beavercreek, Michael Geuy of Caledonia, Kelly (Justin) Houtz of Aldi, Va., Clay DuLaney of St. Paris; and four great-grandchildren; Rachael, Ian, Elijah and Jacob; brother, Ivan (Linda) Thackery; and sister, Eileen (James) Marchal, both of St. Paris. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Arlin Thackery. Hobie was a 1951 graduate of St. Paris High School. He was self employed in construction and St. Paris Auto sales and formerly employed by Inland Homes of Piqua. Hobie was a member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church and Harmony Chapter 8 Masonic Lodge of Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with the Rev. Dave Kepple of the St. Paris United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Harmony Lodge Chapter 8 of Urbana. Memorial donations can be made to the Wilson Hospice, 915 W. Michigan St., Sidney, OH 45365.
