"Jack" 82, of Urbana formerly of Terre Haute, was carried to Heaven in the arms of Jesus at 3:42 P.M. Monday, August 24, 2009 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center High Street Campus surrounded by family. John was born February 1, 1927, in Urbana, a son of Ira F. Voke and Minnie (Boystel) Young and was raised by his mother Minnie and stepfather, Lewis Young along with his 10 brothers and sisters. He was a member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church, loved to spend time with his family, sitting on the porch swing and feeding peanuts to his squirrels, he also enjoyed square dancing, playing euchre, planting gardens and talking on his CB radio where his handle was "Big John". Jack retired from Ohio Steel Foundry-Teledyne Ohio Cast in Springfield after 35 years; he also worked for Mad River Township retiring after 18 years, he also had worked as a security guard for Kenosha and was a farmer. He is survived by his wife and only love, Arlene (Jackson) Voke, whom he married on July 3, 1949, six daughters, Shelley Robbins and her husband Ray of Springfield, Sherrie Britton and her husband Dane of Bellefontaine, Sherma Chris Willman of FL, Shanna Vanscoy and her husband Matt of Urbana, Shalice Nitchman of Rosewood and Shonica Voke of Terre Haute, 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, sisters, Nancy Puckett of Lawrenceville and Betsy Zickafoose of Urbana, one brother, Elmer Young and his wife Mary of West Liberty and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Sue Music and Marjorie Ratcliff and brothers, Norman, Charles, Richard, Ray, Robert and Phillip Young and one son-in-law, Bill Willman. The family will receive friends 1:00 3:00 and 5:00 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 28, 2009 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main Street, Urbana where funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 29, 2009 with Rev. Frank Kampel and Rev. Clifford Kissinger officiating. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, OH.
