Tom was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Miami County, to Arthur M. and Rose (Rupert) Winks. Tom married the former Shirley Bull in 1953, and she survives him along with their three daughters, Debbie (David) Gonsuron of Suwannee, Ga., Diane (John Smith) of Indianapolis, Ind. and Linda McKenzie (Brad Woods) of Troy. He also leaves six grandchildren, Jody (John) Watts of Gumming, Ga., Kelley (Dennis) Mahoney of High Point, N.C., Molly (Jared) Pentecost of Springboro, Tom Smith of Indianapolis, Ind., Drew McKenzie of Cincinnati and Justin McKenzie of Kettering; stepgrandson, Stuart Gonsuron of New Iberia, La.; three great-grandchildren, Zoe and Hayden Pentecost and Madeline Gonsuron; two brothers, Harold (Martha) of St. Paris and Bill (Mary) of Dunkirk, Ind.; and three sisters, Margaret Cline of Gallipolis, Catherine (Richard) Ray of Springfield and Martha (Dennis) Thornsberry of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry; a sister, Alice Bixler; a sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a niece and a nephew. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later owned various businesses in St. Paris, mostly in the automotive field. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge 344 and was a charter member of the Champaign Cruiser Car Club. He enjoyed both of these organizations very much. The last few years he spent most of his time building street rods and attending car shows. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, St. Paris, with the Rev. Doug Upton of the St. Paris United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery with the Rev. John Smith, his son-in-law, presiding. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made on Tom's behalf to Community Mercy Hospice of Springfield.
