Donald Ralph Yocom, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Otterbein Retirement Community, Lebanon, Ohio after several years of declining health. Don was the husband of Dorothy Yocom (deceased) He was a retired United Methodist Minister, and well known for rural and mission work in the West Ohio Methodist Conference, who loved to travel, read and write. Don was born on November 21, 1917, in Mutual, Ohio the son of James and Minta (Alexander) Yocom and brother to Esther, Paul, Lois and stepbrother to Vada Stahler (all deceased). After graduating from Berne Union High School (1935), Don worked in several retail businesses and graduated from Taylor University (1942) and Westminister Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland (1945). Rev. Yocom was ordained a student pastor on December 7, 1941, while attending Taylor University. Don and Dorothy were married on February 11, 1945, in Sidney, Ohio. Rev. Yocom served the following pastorates in the Western Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church: Farmer (Williams County), Westville/Concord (Champaign), West Liberty (Logan), Delphos Trinity (Allen), and Good Shepard Church (Circleville) (Pickaway). After retiring from Good Shepard, Rev. Yocom was the visitation pastor at Central Church (Springfield), then the chaplain at the Masonic Home in Springfield and pastor at Harmony United Methodist Church (Clark). During Rev. Don's ministry, he worked tirelessly in rural ministries, was known around the state for his work in CROP, taught church members about the need for mission work and loved working with youth in the churches. Don traveled and supported several different mission projects in Bangladesh, Haiti, Redbird Mission (Kentucky) and within the local communities and churches he served. Don had been living at Otterbein Retirement Community in Lebanon for 13 years. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.
