He was born March 9, 1932 in Mad River Township (Springfield) the son of Ernest G. and Lena (Bixler) Zerkle. Marvin was a 1950 graduate of Northwestern High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force. Marvin spent his life working on the family dairy farm. He was a member of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church, the Harmony Lodge #8 F. & A.M., the Eastern Star Urbana Chapter #503 and the Champaign County Farm Bureau. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty J. (Heffner); sons, Jeff Zerkle (Rhonda, dec'd.) of Hoover, AL, and his daughter, Anna; Marc (Dee) Zerkle of New Carlisle and their children, Jason (Jonathan, Nicholas and Samantha), Jeff (Benjamin, Sarah and Zachary), Vanessa (Jenna, Katie, Tyler and Dylan), Celeste and Deven; Bruce (Mary) Zerkle of McDonough, GA and their children, Magdalena (Brenden) and Michael (McKenna); and Andrew (Debra) Zerkle of McDonough, GA and their children, Jacob, Amber (Khloe and Lana), Jessie (Brady), Shelby and Courtney; his sister-in-law, Ruth Zerkle of Urbana and her children. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Zerkle; and brothers, Harold and Donald Zerkle. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Following the visitation, Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Terre Haute United Methodist Church with Pastor David Yinger officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery.
