Zirkle, 64, of 302 N. High St., St. Paris, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, in his home. He was born in Champaign County on Nov. 10,1939, the son of the late Claude Russell and Virgial (Pence) Zirkle. Mr. Zirkle was a 1958 graduate of Christianburg-Jackson High School in St. Paris. On May 31,1997, Fred retired from International-Navistar in Springfield, where he was a member of the Union Club and Local 402, United Workers Auto Union. His other memberships include Knights of Pythias Lodge 344, St Paris; Moose Lodge 1215, Urbana; the Eagles Lodge, of both Springfield and Piqua; Buckeye State Sheriffs Association and Lakeland Golf Course of St. Paris, where he was an avid golfer. Fred attended the Terre Haute United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Janet (Dorsey) Wiford Zirkle who he married Dec. 23,1988; a son, Bryan (Melissa) Zirkle of Urbana; a daughter, Kimberlyn Zirkle of Ann Arbor, Mich.; three grandchildren, Ethan and Garrett Zirkle of Urbana and Travis Leary of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two-stepsons, Douglas (Linda) Wiford of Gahanna and Daniel (Valerie) Wiford, of Windsor, Conn.; a brother, Roland "Butch" Zirkle of Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister, Dorothy (Robert) Wolfe of St. Paris; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by three brothers, Benjamin, Junior and Ralph Zirkle. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Richeson-Wickham and Atkins Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with Pastor Frank Kampel of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in St. Paris. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Fred's memory to Hospice of Community Hospital, 530 S.
