SERVICE The recruits composing this organization were enrolled by Captain Barton Oct. 9, 1862 at Camp Portsmouth, Oh. On Jan 7, 1863, the Co. was ordered by Governor Tod to Camp Dennison, where it arrived 2 days later. On June 6, 1863, it was ordered to the command of Colonel Wallace to suppress an insurrection of Butternuts in Holmes County, returning June 23, 1863. On July 12, 1863, it was ordered to Cincinnati, and participated with other troops repelling Morgans raid. It performed picket duty west of the city until July 17, and then returned to the city and performed guard duty. It was mustered into the U.S. service March 9, & Aug. 22, 1863, at Camp Dennison, Oh. By Joseph R. Paxton, Capt. 15th Infantry, U.S.A. and P.W. Stanhope, Capt. 12th Infantry, U.S.A. mustering officers. Nov 10, 1863, it was ordered by Major Gen. Grant to proceed to Chattanooga, Tenn., at which place it arrived Nov. 25, 1863, and was attached to a temporary organization composed of the 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Co.'s of Ohio Sharp-Shooters. Under Command of Capt. Gershen M. Barber, of the 5th Independent Co., it performed duty as Headquarters guard to Maj. Gen. Thomas. It was mustered out of service July 19, 1865, at Nashville, Tenn., by William S. Wilson, Capt. 71st O.V.I., mustering officer. The company's loss during its term of service was 3 men died of disease, and 1 drowned in Cumberland River.
