August 15, 1902 "The Sun" newspaper, Springfield, Clark Co, OH, front page: LOVER DID NOT COME Miss Lizzie Hinder Waits for him in vain - Elopement may yet be arranged by the two. There seems to be quite a mystery surrounding the actions of Miss Lizzie Hinder of 153 W Main street, and her lover, Gus Pummel of Hamilton. Miss Hinder, a bright and attractive girl, aged 17 years, disappeared from her home last Wednesday evening a week ago, and the mother asked the assistance of the police. An all night search did not reveal a clue. Yesterday morning a letter was delivered at the girl's home, addressed to Miss Hinder. The mother opened the letter and found that it was from her daughter's lover, Gus Pummel of Hamilton. He stated that he would be in the city yesterday, and after getting the license they could get married any place. The girl returned from Hamilton yesterday noon and was met by her mother who took her home. At an early hour this morning, the lover had not yet put in an appearance and Mrs Hinder, who is opposed to the marriage, is fearful that the couple may arrange an elopement in the near future.
