P. Matthews Funeral Ste for Tuesday Funeral services for Lewis P. Matthews, 79, of 709 E. High st., former local factory executive who died Sunday at 1 p.m. in the City Hospital, where he had been admitted Thursday night, will be held in the residence at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Ferncliff cemetery. Mr. Matthews had fallen recently and fractured his hip. He had been in failing health a year. Born in Maysville, Ky, April 5, 1867, the son of Thomas A. and Llewellyn Stockwell Matthews, he had resided in Springfield for the past 45 years. When he made his home in Springfield, Mr. Matthews became associated with the Thomas Manufacturing Co. and was with that concern for a number of years. More recently, he was active in stocks and securities and remained so until his death. Prior to coming to Springfield, he had live in Covington, Ky., where he was superintendent of the C. O. Coal Terminal for many years. He was later associated with several banks in Cincinnati in an executive capacity. Mr. Matthews was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Springfield County Club. His wife, Mabel Thomas Matthews, preceded hm in Death on Dec. 18, 1944. Hi is survived by a son, Thomas A., of Springfield, and a niece of Muncie, Ind. The body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home and was returned to the residence Monday. Nolte, Robert McConnell, Howard B. Noonan, Ocsar T. Martin, S. A. Bowman and Gustavus Foos. The services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the residence. Burial was in Ferncliff Cemetery. Mr. Matthews, formerly an executive with the Thomas Manufacturing Co., died at 1 p.m. Sunday in the City Hospital.
