Andrew J. POWELL, 67, of 1420 Augusta ay., was dead on arrival of
the Springfield Fire Division emergency squad in his residence shortly after 
noon Saturday. He was born in Gillsville, Ga., on October 15, 1900, the son of 
Andrew and Nealie HAYDEN POWELL, and was retired from the Ohio Steel Foundry 
after 48 years of service. Mr. POWELL was a member of the St. John's 
Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the male chorus and the senior choir 
of the church. Surviving are his wife, Ruth E. POWELL; five daughters, Mrs. 
Joan YOUNG, Mrs. Laura BURNS, Mrs. Henrietta HAIRSTON and Mrs. Elizabeth 
GILBREATH, all of Springfield, and Mrs. Martha RUSSELL, of Compton, Calif.; 
two sons Richard POWELL of San Francisco, Calif.; and Eugene POWELL, of 
Springfield; one brother, Pete POWELL, of Springfield; 13 grandchildren, a 
number of nieces, nephews and cousins. His body was taken to the Dennis L. 
Porter Funeral Home.
