DeWitt (Hap) RUTAN, 75, of 4080 Mechanicsburg Rd., a teacher, coach and principal at Olive Branch Junior High School for 48 years, died at Mercy Medical Center at 3:25 a.m. Saturday. He was born in Mechanicsburg on May 15, 1907, a son of Glen and Della MCADAMS RUTAN. Mr. RUTAN retired as an educator in 1970. He was a member of the United Methodist Curch of Mechanicsburg, the Disabled American Veterans and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and was veteran of World War II. A graduate of Cedarville College, he played semi-professional football in Urbana for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, the former Venus MAXWELL, a brother, Rolland RUTAN of Mechanicsburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn CUNNINGHAM of Mechanicsburg and Mrs. Winifred TULLIS of West Liberty. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Skillman Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, by the Rev. David G. HEISTAND. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hap RUTAN Fund for Needy Children and be earmarked for either the New-Carlisle-Bethel School District or the Mechanicsburg School District.
