Thomas, Manufacture, Ill Short Time, Is Dead Charles E. Thomas, 77, manufacturer, died Saturday morning at the city hospital of heart trouble. He had been ill several weeks, but was much improved Thursday and Friday, however, the end came very suddenly. Mr. Thomas was born in Maryland, but had lived here the greater part of his life. His first employment was with Thomas and Mast, builders of grain drills. Afterwards when John H. Thomas sold out his interests to Mr. Mast, Charles E. Thomas and his brother, Joseph W. Thomas, became partners in the firm of Thomas, Ludlow and Rodgers who also made grain drills. After that firm sold out, he became a stockholder in The Thomas Manufacturing company, which is now in business here. Mr. Thomas was vice president of the Thomas Manufacturing company and was at his desk as lat as three weeks ago. Mr. Thomas was a member of Christ Episcopal chrch [sic], and was senior warden for many years, and at the time of his death. He was an upright Christian gentleman, honest in his opinions, modest in expressions, sincere in his friendships, and courteous to all. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jennie L. Thomas, and by one sister, Miss Josephine S. Thomas, who is in ill health, and is spending the winter in Florida; and by the children of his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Raffensperger, and by the children of his brother, John H. Thomas, who are residents of the city, and by the children of his brother Richard P. Thomas, who live in the west. The funeral services will be held at the Christ Episcopal church, on Monday afternoon at two o’clock. Friends will kindly omit flowers.
