Josiah V. Thompson Journals
      "The venerable Hiram Finley died at his home on s. South St. on Tuesday, 
August 17, 1897 at 12 o'c aged 79 yrs.  The deceased was one of the oldest, if 
not the oldest continuous resident of Wilmington, he having located here in 
early life & had lived here ever since without interruption.  He was born in 
Highland Co, O June 5, 1818.  In 1850 he married Miss Lydia Shepherd a sister 
of Dr W.W. Shepherd who is now the only surviving member of the family, the 
deceased leaving no children.  Hiram Finley was an upright, honorable citizen 
throughout his long residence here.  The funeral service will take place at 
the residence today (Thursday) at 10 o'c AM with Rev A.N. Spahr in charge".
