His grandfather, Ebenezer Burt, and his grandfather's brother, William Burt, moved from Washington County, Pa., to New Denmark, Columbiana County, O., in or about 1815. The grandfather died suddenly, while hunting, in 1821. While his brother William may have migrated to Columbiana earlier, Ebenezer did not leave Somerset Township, Washington County until around 1825 and at that point settle in Canaan Township, Morrow County Ohio. There is no "New Denmark" in Columbiana, but there is a "Denmark" in Morrow, now known as Mt. Gilead. Ebenezer's children Leah (b 1813), Joseph (1814) and Mark M Burt (1822) were born in Washington County PA. Lou's father Merritt was born in Morrow in 1828, followed by Ebenezer (1830) and George W Burt (1832). The father Ebenezer died in 1836.
