Ringwalt, Supt. of the House of Refuge of Western Pennsylvania: I am willing to fulfill the last two years of Jacob B. Young's term of keeping George H. Alford and will do as well by him as is in my power. Letter dated Dec. 22, 1864, to Superintendent of House of Refuge: Understanding that George Alford, who was an indentured apprentice to Jacob B. Young, Esq., late of Columbiana County, Ohio, has made application to serve out the remainder of his apprenticeship with Christian Bowman Esq. of this (Columbiana County) and, whereas it has been represented to us by our friend, Mr. Bowman, that he is willing and desires the services of the aforesaid George for the unexpired term of his indentureship, therefore we hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Mr. Bowman above named and know him to be a moral, upright man, a good citizen and one of the best farmers in Columbiana County. Alford to Superintendent of House of Refuge: I desire to serve the unexpired term of apprenticeship with Christian Bowman Esq. of this Columbiana Co., Ohio.
