SMITH, of Hanover. +CORRESPONDENTS In the reasons assigned for rejecting the communication of the "Springfield" correspondent, the subject matter of his essay being glanced at, Mr. BROOKS claims the privilege of defending himself against the charge intimated to have been made by the correspondent. Consistently with the rejection of the communication to which Mr. BROOKS proposed to reply, the latter must likewise be rejected, with the exception of the following certificate of Sheriff WATSON, in relation to the fact charged. SHERIFF WATSON'S CERTIFICATE Whereas it has been circulated and insinated by several persons in this county that I employed and hired De Lorma BROOKS to assist the in taking James RODGERS to the penitentiary last fall or winter, therefore, I now hereby certify, that De Lorma BROOKS never did contract with me to assist in taking said RODGERS, that he never did in any way contract to receive any compensation for so doing, and that he never did receive any, and further, that said De Lorma BROOKS did not in any way perform the duties of a guard to said ROGERS. ORTH and Frederick STROHN, heretofore, to wit at the May term of the court of Common Pleas, in and for the said county, A.D. 1827, filed their bill of complaint against Gideon HUGHES and others, residents of the state of Ohio, as also against Moses BRALT, William WARD, senr., John NIXON, John DAILY, William BRALT, and Joseph BROOKSHAW, who reside in the city of Pittsburgh, in the state of Pennsylvania, praying amongst other things, that they disclose fully the amount agreed to be paid by them to Holland GREEN, (as members of the Equitable Co-operaton Association,) for the tract of land with the improvements thereon made known as HUGHES' UPPER WORKS--at what time the money was to be paid--and how it was secured--and that upon a final securing the notes or evidences of debt be transferred to the complainants subject to the satisfaction of the lien to be ascertained of the said GREEN of that they shall be held by the said GREEN in trust for the complainants--as that the equitable interests of the said HUGHES in and to the said Upper Works, be sold to satisfy the said complainants, or that the court will make such other order and decree in the premises, as shall be deemed equitable and just. Court } New-Lisbon, June 12, 1827 This day came the said Robert KNIGHT, by RUSSELL and BREWER, his attorneys, and filed his petition, praying the judges of said Supreme Court to dissolve the marriage contract between him and the said Laner, for the following causes set forth in the said petition, to wit, wilful absence for more than three years, and adultery.
