Just one week since, he was taking a walk and was caught in the rain, which exposure brought on his fatal illness. Mr. Thomas was born in Cobridge, near Burslem, Staffordshire, England, September 14th, 1809. He married at Asbury, County Chester, in England, and came to this country in 1833, settling in Patterson, New Jersey; from thence he removed to Troy, Indiana, and in 1846 settled in East Liverpool. He followed the trade of crate maker as an occupation, and continued at it and potting until shortly after the death of his wife, some five years ago. He then gave up business and retired. He had two children – Maria and Richard – when he came to this country, having buried three in England. He now leaves two sons living, William and Richard, both of this city, the latter being the head of the Thomas knob pottery. Maria died at Troy, Indiana, in 1850, while on a trip down the river, having only been married to Jethro Manly some five weeks. From the time of the commencement of his illness until Friday morning last, he suffered great pain; since that time he was unconscious. The remains will be interred in Spring Grove cemetery tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The remains of his wife will be lifted from the old cemetery, and interred by his side in Spring Grove cemetery at the same hour. He was a good kind husband and father, and held in great respect by all who had any acquaintance with him, and leaves a wide circle of friends to mourn his demise.
