Christian S. Shade was born in Tulpehocken township, Berks County Pennsylvania 
on  April 19, 1767

In 1789 at the age of 23 he married 21 year old Catherine Riegel and began a 
family.  In early 1801 he moved his wife and seven children to Carlisle PA. 
where  he purchased 95 acres. Twelve years later, in 1813, he sold the land 
and moved his family  to Columbiana County Ohio, where he purchased 160 acres 
in Butler Twp (SW quadrant of section 26 - now part of Winona Ohio) His wife 
Catherine Riegel died there in 1817 at age 49, and is  buried in St. Michaels 
Cemetery, North Gerogetown, Ohio.

On June 5, 1824 Chfristian sold 120 acres to George Brantingham, and  In 1831 
he sold the remaining 40 acres to his son John Shade for $800 and moved to 
Seneca County Ohio, where on January 19, 1837 he die at age 70. He is there 
buried in the Smith Cemetery, Venice Twp. Seneca Co OH.
