I Jacob Shafer of Springfield Township in Columbiana County and State of Ohio, being in perfect mind and good memory although very weak in body therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body. I recommend to the earth to buried in a Christian Decent burial at the direction of my Executors nothing doubting, but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and touching such worldly estate as it has pleased God to endow me with. I do demise and dispose of in the following manner and form ( ) I do allow my lawful debts and funeral charges to be paid out of my estate after my decease, ( ) I do allow my beloved wife Catharina to have and to hold all of my Estate both real and personal during her widowhood or natural life, and after the decease of my wife, I allow and bequeath all my land that I hold to my son John Shafer his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Shafer shall pay one hundred and fifty dollars to my son Henry Shafer for his part of my real estate, and also after the decease of my wife the said John Shafer shall keep and maintain my daughter Nancy during her life and if it shall so happen that the said John should not be willing or be suitable for him to keep my daughter Nancy, then my daughter Catharina shall take Nancy to her care and the said John Shafer shall pay or cause to be paid until said Catharina the sum of thirty dollars yearly and every year for the support and maintenance of said Nancy. I also allow my ten plate stove to my daughter Nancy during her natural life. I also allow all my books to be divided amongst all my children or sold among themselves at a private sale after my wife’s decease and after the decease of my wife, if there shall remain any personal property I allow the same to be sold and the proceeds to be divided among all my lawful heirs, equally. Lastly I constitute and appoint my son John Shafer and my son in law George Snooke my true and lawfull executors of this my last will and testament fully authorized to execute the same. I hereby revoke and disallow all other wills and bequathments by me in any wise here to fore made. Confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written.
