Coshocton Tribune Friday June 17, 1949 

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2pm at the Bonnell funeral home in
Newcomerstown for Sheldon M. Gross, 78, of 651 Cross St. Newcomerstown, who was
drowned yesterday in an attempt to pull his granddaughter from the Tuscarawas
river into which she had slipped while fishing. Rev. Charles Foust will
officiate and burial will be in the State St. cemetery. Mr. Gross was born Sept.
5, 1880, in Tuscarawas county a son of Jacob and Elvira Johns Gross. He was
married to Eva Howe, who died in 1922. He was a member of the Moose lodge at
Morgantown W. Va. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles Cutshall,
Newcomerstown, with whom he resided; two sons, Melvin of Newcomerstown and
Charles of Morgantown W. Va., father of the rescued girl; four grandchildren, a
brother, Ray of San Ysidro, Calf., four sisters, Mrs. John Fogarty and Mrs.
Charles Zane, Akron, Mrs. Cary Brown, Cleveland and Mrs. Daniel Kees,
Newcomerstown Route 3.
