ALVA HAMMERSLEY, LINTON TOWNSHIP NATIVE STRICKEN

Alva L. Hammerlsey, 81, former resident of Newcomerstown, died Monday at 6 p.m.
at the Tuscarawas county home in New Philadelphia.

Born Nov. 23, 1867 in Linton township, he was a son of Thomas and Mary Davis
Hammersley.  On Feb. 6, 1889, he married Maggie Sarchet, who died in 1940.  He
was a former James B. Clow and Sons employee.

Surviving are two daughter, Mrs. Sally Howell, Newcomerstown and Mrs. Fred
Widder of Newcomerstown; four sons, Isaac and Thomas of Newcomerstown, Carl of
Florence, Calif. and Russell, address unknown; a half-sister, Mrs. Cary Burgess
Walker of Warsaw; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  Two daughters,
one brother, a half-brother and a half sister are deceased.
