Death was due to peritonitis. He was stricken on January 3 and removed to the hospital where he underwent an operation for appendicitis lasg Sunday. Mr. Harstine was born on a farm near Orange on April 25, 1866, a son of the late John and Margaret Harstine. Early in childhood he was united with the Baptist church which was fomerly located near Orange. Later he transferred his membership to the Plainfield M. P. church. The deceased was united in marriage on June 1, 1891, with Jane Miller, who survives. Six children were born to this union. Those surviving are are Mrs. James Ruby of near Plainfield, Charles of the home; Miss Blanche Harstine, Detroit, Mich., William of Linton Mills and Homer Harstine of Newcomerstown. One son, Leonard, died eight years ago. The following sister and brothers also survive; Mrs. John Oakleaf of near Newcomerstown, Mrs. Jennie Himes and Henry Harstine, New Philadelphia, Mrs. Maggie Richmond, Orange and Mrs. John Miller, Newcomerstown. One brother and three sisters preceded him in death. No funeral arrangements had been made this noon.
