Between 8 and 8:30 this morning, Mrs. Kees was seen walking from her home toward the barn. At 9 o'clock a son, Clyde, who lives nearby and his son, Vernon, started to hunt for the former's mother. They found her lying in water in bushes at the edge of a swimming hold in Dunlap creek about 175 yards from her house. Foot prints showed she had walked into the water. Dr. Henry Kistler of Newcomerstown, deputy coroner of Tuscarawas cy, pronounced death due to suicide by drowning. Lydia Jane Gross was born May 26, 1881, near Newcomerstown, a daughter of Jacob and Ellen Johns Gross. On July 4, 1899, she was married to Daniel Kees. She was a member of the Hartwood Methodist church and the Tabitha club of Washington township. Surviving are the husband, Daniel Kees; a daughter, Mrs. Floyd Kinsey of the home, a son, Clyde, Newcomerstown Route 3; a step-son John, Newcomerstown Route 2; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Lane and Mrs. John Fogarty, both of Akron; Mrs. Carrie Brown, Cleveland; a brother, Ray Gross, San Ysidro, Calif. 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday at the Hartwood Methodist church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
