Mr Porteus served as director of the Coshocton County Board of Agriculture for 30 years, his tenure running from 1927-1957. He was born April 6, 1888 in tuscarawas township, the son of john and Susan Irwin Porteus, and was married Nov. 31, 1917 to Iola Blair, who survives. his memberships included Franklin Grange, Farm Bureau, South Tuscarawas Fire Dept., and the Franklin Methodist Church. Survivors in addition to the widow are one daughter, Mrs. Francis Buxton, Warsaw Route 3, one son, Blair Porteus, Route 2 and 10 grandchildren. Two daughters, one sister, and one brother and one granddaughter are deceased. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Franklin Methodist Church in charge of Dr. Roy Farmer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
