Simmons, 68, a Lafayette township trustee, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at his home, 325 East Main st., West Lafayette, following a nine months illness. He was born Sept. 9, 1887 at Otsego, a son of the late Joseph and Suzannah Mecher Simmons. He was married to the former Anna Howell, Nov. 28, 1908. Mr. Simmons, a former service station operator, retired 15 years ago. He was serving his third term as trustee at the time of his death. He belonged to Flat Ridge Methodist Church. Surviving are the widow; three sons, Vernon Adrien and Richard, all of West Lafayette, a daughter, Mrs. Parnell Dawson, West Lafayette; two brothers, Algernon Simmons, New Concord Route 1 and Rudy Simmons, Cambridge; a sister, Mrs. Scott Duff, Los Angeles, Calif., and seven grandchildren. One son, three brothers and two sisters are deceased. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bonnell funeral home, West Lafayette, in charge of Rev. S. S. Burnett and Rev. Norman Young Prichard. Burial will be in Fairfield cemetery, West Lafayette. Friends will be received at the funeral home 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
