His demise was due to injuries received two weeks ago at which time he was struck by a freight train on the Ohio Central and injured so badly that his death was only a question of days. Born near Laurel Hill, Fayette County, PA in October 1807, he was the youngest of three children of Peter Eicher. He has a brother Levi, 98, still living in PA. He lived at home until 18 years, then hired out and worked for nine years cutting wood for charcoal furnaces. In the summers he worked on the farm. His father was a blacksmith, and Reuben always told that his father made the first plow in that part of PA. It was also the first plow used there. He married in 1835 to Rebecca Murray and lived in PA until the beginning of the Civil War. He came to Ohio locating at Annapolis or Sulphur Springs. He first lived on the farm of Jack Musgrave at Sulphur Springs and after at several different places. His wife died 21 years ago. They had twelve children, seven still living. Youngest, James of Bucyrus; William of Allegheny, PA; George of Leipsic, OH; John at soldiers home in Sandusky, OH; Kate Schell of Brandywine, Mary (Rittenour) Smith of North Robinson, and Mrs. Grimm of Brokensword. Peter and John, were first born twins, both were in the Civil War. One died in battle the other after his return from the army. Reuben had a good memory and talked earnestly to visitors about his life. He cast his first vote for Andrew Jackson. Buried in Luke Cemetery, east of Bucyrus.
