Dorenkott Sr. began nudging opportunity a long time ago. As a freshman at St. Ignatius High School, he met the Depression head-on and opened a soft-drink concession near the Lakewood High School tennis courts. Cream soda was the favorite of one old friend. Mr. Dorenkott, 70, died in a Fort Lauderdale, Fla. hospital. He had cancer. He was a Cleveland native and attended John Carroll University for a time after graduating from St. Ignatius. He was a World War II Army veteran. Mr. Dorenkott went to work at Lake Erie Screw Corp of Lakewood after leaving the Army and retired years later as a vice president. At the time of his death, he was president of Broward Cold Storage, a firm he founded with his son in Fort Lauderdale. Mr. Dorenkott was a member of the Lakewood Country Club and a devotee of golf. He was a 40 year member of St. Christopher Parish in Rocky River, where he served as eucharistic layman. He was treasurer of the St. Christopher Men's Club, a member of the Holy Name Society and an acolyte at St. John Cathedral. Mr. Dorenkott is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Anne of Fort Lauderdale; sons, James A. Jr. of San Diego, and John B. of Fort Lauderdale; daughter, Mary Anne Kuhn of Scituate, Mass; and a grandchild. A third son, Robert C., died in 1977" Plain Dealer, Friday, 03 Jun, 1988, pg. 08 sec.
