John McGriff is a twin brother of Richard McGriff, of Randolph County, Indiana. He was engaged in farming and stock-dealing in his native county until 1871, when he came to Adams County, Indiana, and now lives with his son Michael. He is a Democrat in political faith, casting his first vote for Andrew Jackson. His wife died in Darke County in 1850, aged thirty years. They had two sons -Michael, and Simon, a dealer in live-stock at Selma, Ohio. Michael McGriff was reared on a farm, remaining there until eighteen years of age, when he began teaching school, which he followed two years. In 1868 he went to Fort Recovery, Ohio, and with his brother dealt in live-stock until 1871, when he came to Adams County, and first located at Geneva, where he was engaged in the grocery business until 1880. In 1882 Mr. McGriff was elected sheriff of Adams County, and was re-elected in 1884.
