I volunteered my service with many others which made up a company and was commanded by Captain Joseph Reid. It was called the 1st company of the 7th regiment of the York County militia. William Smith was the colonel of our regiment and John Lindley was Major. We marched immediately across the Susquehanna River to Philadelphia where we drew our equipments, and then we marched to New York, or Paoli’s Hook as it was then called, where we joined the army under General Robert Doe, at which place I stayed until the expiration of at least four months from the time I enlisted, as I before stated.” “After I got through said period of service I returned home at my former residence. In the month of March 1780, I had left my home to haul a load for a man with my team to Charleston, the state of South Carolina, and on my arrival at Charleston, I was pressed, with my team also, into the service of the Continental Army. The ?Col. was _____, at which time I was detained 3 weeks with my team also.” “I then returned to York County, Pennsylvania, where I resided until the year 1781, some time in the month of November of said year. I was pressed again in said county to haul wood and provisions and etc for the soldiers of the army of Cornwallis after they were taken, and a part of which were ?stationed and at York Township in York County, said state of Pennsylvania, and was engaged that time in the Revolutionary War until the last of march the ensuing year, making about three months and a half, the last period of my service.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/oh/darke/military/revwar/pensions/douglass23gmt.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ohfiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
