Obituary

Died 16 Feb. 1989


        Cary E. "Pete" Birt, 96, of 130 Marion Drive, Greenville, died 10:45
a.m. Thursday at Heartland of Greenville.

        A native of Burkettsville, he was a son of the late Frank and Ida
(Sink) Birt. Owner of the General Store in Rossburg, he was one of four 
generations operating the store.

        He attended the Rossburg United Methodist Church, was a member of 
Ansonia Kiwanis Club; and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

        Survivors include a son. Wayne of Rossburg; two granddaughters, 
Janet Keith of Urbana and Melanie Clinton of Concord, N. H.; and a sister, 
Marjorie Ackley of Okeechobee, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, 
Goldie, in 1962; three sisters, Mabel Whitehead, Isabel Felkey and Fern 
Taylor; and one brother, Donald Birt.

        Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oliver Funeral Home, 
Ansonia, with Rev. Max Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Hosapple 
Cemetery.

        Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. 
Memorial contribuations may be made to Rossburg United Methodist Church.
