Friday morning the aged man attempted to take his own life by slashing his throat with a razor. He cut a gash six inches long across his throat, from which he lost a great amount of blood, and which required twelve stitches to sew up. The attending physician held out little hope for his recovery and he passed away shortly afternoon Saturday. Mr. Henning, who was 80 years of age, had been making his home with his son west of this city on the Nashville Road. His wife died several years ago. Those surviving him are two sons and one daughter, several grandchildren and other relatives. Ill health and despondency are supposed to have been the cause of the aged man's desire to end his own life. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of his son on the Nashville Pike. Interment in the Dininger Cemetery. ----- Note: David Henning was the son of Jacob Henning Jr. and Barbara (Stoever/Staver) Henning. Barbara was the daughter of Tobias and Maria Catharine (Null) Stoever of Pa. Barbara, along with sister, Christena, and brother, Tobias Staver, married into the "Henning" family. All being siblings and in-laws of each other.
