Wilson, one of Greenville's noted business men, and a citizen of much prominence, passed away at his residence, 208 Sycamore Street, this morning at 1 o'clock. Mr. Wilson had been in poor health for several months from heart trouble, and, while the end came suddenly, it was not unlooked for. Nevertheless many hundreds of friends of this good and kindly man, will be shocked and saddined to learn the he had been called to his reward. A.N. Wilson was born at West sonora, Preble county, May 10, 1842. he was 80 years old, 8 months and 26 days old at the time of his death. He was a son of a Western Ohio pioneer, Thomas Wilson, who walked from Pennsylvania to Zanesville int the early 20's, and later came to Preble county, near Lewisburg, where he married and where A. N. Wilson was born. His mother was Elizabeth Leas, of another pioneer family. They were of the old staid quaker faith, and were people of stout moral integrity, industrious, frugal and plain in speech and dress. At the age of 14 Mr. Wilson went to work on a farm for $6 a month. He was of studious nature and acquired a good education considering his opportunities. In the fall of 1861, he commenced teaching school, but soon laid aside his books and took a gun in defence of the Union, enlisting as a private in Co. E, 6th regiment O.V. I. for a period of three years. He reenlisted at te end of that period and served until the war ended. He participated in many battles. After the war Mr. Wilson taught school near Ithaca for a while, later opening a general store in Jaysville in partnership with his uncle Jesse Tillman. He later conducted stores at Winchster, Ind., and Ansonia. He remained in Ansonia about five years. during most of that tiem he served as Postmaster. He married while at Ansonia, his wife being a daughter of George Niswonger. Mr. Wilson brought his family to Greenville in 1873 and his long career here as a merchant began that fall. He continued in business here until three years ago, when he sold out to the Economy Store, the business they are now conduction in the building which he erected in 1879. A.N. Wilson was elected Mayor of Greenville in 1903 and served two years. he was president of the board of trustees of the Dayton State Hospital for several years. He was a member of the Board of Education and a member of the committee that went to Washington to secure the building of the present government building. He was an Odd Fellow for 40 years and a member of the G.A.R. Mr. Wilson is survived by seven children, five of whom live in Greenville. They are Osborn, Fraser E., Bessie, Carl, and Frank. Two daughters, Mrs. W.H. Mann and Mrs. J. L. Ewing reside in Kalamazoo, Mich. The wife and mother passed away April 7, 1914. Funeral services for the deceased will be held at the late residence Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Rev. Dr. McLean will preach the funeral discourse.
